So one of my oddball kids, every time he opens his locker, looks at the picture of his cat inside and says, “hey, Nutter.”

I didn’t know if he really realized he was doing this until today when I was helping him get organized (and you know this kid’s in bad shape when he’s asking for my organizational help and it’s the fifth day of the school year).  He opens the door, greets the cat picture and then sort of looks to me to do the same thing.  You know, that sort of nudging glance like, “hey, now, don’t be rude to my cat picture here.  tell it hello.”

I did the uh huh hmmm uncomfortable chuckle and grabbed for a binder.
